Healing Trauma Effects: Combining Ancient Shamanistic Methods with Social Work Practice for Regaining Mental Health and Personal Empowerment
Ancient shamans were the social workers of their time: healing, re-establishing and maintaining harmony and balance for their villagers. Today, shamanic talents are desperately needed to heal the spiritual effects of trauma. This workshop teaches social workers how to apply shamanistic practices in social work settings. They will learn how to heal themselves, their clients and their organizations from the effects of trauma by connecting to the guiding spirit of their mission. No experience necessary.

- Understand the historical shamanistic view across diverse cultures and where social work, psychology and anthropology intersect.
- Learn the shamanistic concept of treatment for mental illness and the role of the social worker shamanist.
- Experience ways shamanistic methods can be combined with social work practice including protocols for and application of beginning shamanistic healing skills.
- Understand how the shaman practitioner restores personal power to the clients.
- Meet the spirit of their own agency, nonprofit or private practice via a contemporary urban shaman journey.

The Shamanic Journey: An Introductory Class
Shamanic journeying is a focused healing and spiritual process practiced on every continent on Earth. The shamanic process is aimed at creating balance and harmony in your life by opening doors to parallel realms of consciousness where helpful spirit teachers and power animals dwell. Shamanic Journeying Circle: The Spirit Adventure
The breath-taking adventure that is your life is waiting for you to leap into it. Learn how to become the leader of your own life in a new relationship with the spirit realm, and with the support of an on-going group of fellow explorers.
This on-going 6-week cycle of journey circles will help you to shape and strengthen your relationship with Spirit, with the people in your life, and all the relationships you have with this world and its environment. No experience is necessary to begin this work of learning how to engage with the Spirit realms to gain guidance, knowledge and understanding from your helping and teaching spirits.
During your first six weeks together, your group will learn time-tested techniques to journey to the Spirit realms, meet and learn to work with your spirit helpers, and learn how to bring those experiences back into ordinary life effectively.
